About Us

Sustainable. Seasonal. Scandinavian.

After having spent more than a decade in Copenhagen, Denmark, chef-owner Nichole Accettola created her own gathering place for good Scandinavian food in San Francisco, Kantine. The name is derived from the Danish word for canteen, a place were friends and co-workers gather to share a hearty meal and enjoy lively conversation.

Accettola’s Kantine is a Scandinavian-inspired eatery that serves breakfast, brunch, lunch and a lot (!) of pastries six days a week. It is located at 1906 Market Street, between three vibrant San Francisco neighborhoods: Hayes Valley, the Castro and the Mission. The menu is influenced by what’s in season and good to eat! Kantine boasts menu items such as cardamom morning buns, savory porridge with mushrooms and farmers cheese, cured trout on seeded rye buns and Swedish meatball soup. Don't miss the weekend specials!

In October 2023, Nichole Accettola released a baking cookbook called “Scandinavian From Scratch” with Ten Speed Press.

Kantine is proud to be one of just a handful of San Francisco restaurants that is a Certified California Green Business committed to exceeding all environmental regulations and implementing practices to reduce pollution, save water, conserve energy, and protect human health.
