Happy Friday! Toasted prayer buns with a side of Swedish gifflar #storebededag #gifflar #scandistyle
This year Friday, May 17 marks the Danish holiday Store Bededag, or Great Prayer Day in English, where (back in the day) everybody had to go to church to pray. Not even the bakers were supposed to work, so instead they baked off these special Cardamom Wheat Buns that could be cut in the middle, toasted, and enjoyed with a slathering of butter.
Today, many Danes jump-start the holiday by eating the toasted buns the evening before the holiday, and if you're like us, you might choose to eat the buns on both days!
As you can imagine, our bakers are revved and ready to bake mountains of buns for these two days. Stop by Kantine Thursday or Friday and pick a few up, and if you'd like to secure your hveder for the date, they can be preordered via our website. Link in bio! #hveder #varmehveder #storebededag
Before and after.
Our place. ✨
Caraway mustard pork sausage.
When our guests hear that we make our own sausage, cheese, yogurt, bacon and pastries (and all kinds of other stuff) in-house, they often are surprised. We are very proud of what we do. Maybe we should be a bit better at telling others about the attention and time that goes into our food to make it delicious? #weknowwhatitismadeof

WE'RE HOSTING ANOTHER POP-UP DINNER, AND YOU'RE INVITED
For our next pop-up on Wednesday, April 24, Kantine will be changing things up a bit by featuring a totally different cuisine and head chef. This time around, our Canadian sous chef Stéphanie will be at the helm of the range, and she will be preparing some of her fondest French Canadian dishes throughout the evening.
In Stéphanie's own words:
Come grab a bite of the best of Montréal’s comfort food (without the snow) on Wednesday, April 24th. The menu is featuring poutine, a hearty dish of French fries, fresh cheese curds and dark brown gravy. You can expect a classic Montréal smoked meat style and a Scandinavian inspired iteration along with other homey dishes.
Doors open at 6-10pm or until we run out of food!
No reservations required, so swing on by. (Please note, our usual reservation system Resy will not be accepting online reservations for this event.)
